The Piano Player
PRICE: $85,000
GENRE: Drama/Fantasy
LOGLINE: A musician is given a magical piano by a woman from New Orleans. Jonathan Quince is able to travel back in time by playing the right keys. He performs with musical icons as he searches for the woman’s father.
SYNOPSIS:
Jonathan Quince is a gifted musician struggling to make it big. He takes a job at the airport to support himself and his wife, Earlene. There, he meets a coworker, Mary Kim, from New Orleans. When Jonathan mentions he's a musician, Mary Kim tells him about her father, also a piano player, and his piano still at her home.
Mary Kim offers the piano to Jonathan. Though reluctant, he accepts. He soon discovers mysterious chords inside the piano that, when played correctly, cause him to disappear. Jonathan finds himself transported back in time, playing for famous artists. Remarkably, he fits right in, with everyone recognizing him as if he belongs there. By playing the "right keys," Jonathan can return to the present.
Mary Kim reveals that this is how her father disappeared years ago, apparently forgetting the "right keys" to return. Jonathan offers to go back and search for her father. His wife initially agrees, as Jonathan could earn good money playing for Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, and Michael Jackson.
Meanwhile, a new neighbor, Calvin Brooks, moves in across the street and takes an interest in Earlene. As Jonathan travels through time, Calvin makes his move.
Jonathan lands in Illinois in 1960, where he encounters dangerous people who take advantage of him. A Mr. Vern, also searching for Mary Kim's father, knows about the magical piano. Jonathan is captured and given heroin to control him. He becomes addicted and forgets the "right keys" to return home.
Jonathan eventually finds Mary Kim's father, who also forgot the "right keys" due to his drinking problem.
During Jonathan's absence, Earlene gives birth to their daughter and grows closer to Calvin Brooks. Jonathan is gone for 25 years before he can return home.
The series would span those 25 years until Jonathan's return. The final episode would show Jonathan coming home to find Earlene married to Calvin Brooks, his daughter now 25 years old, and Mary Kim still working at the airport.
