PRICE: $100,000

GENRE: Drama/Action/Crime

LOGLINE: When a professional boxer is sentenced for a capable homicide he didn't commit, his lawyer is bent on defending him from inhuman treatment by the bad Warden.

SYNOPSIS:

After a small party with his friends celebrating his boxing championship title defense, Cebisa is arrested the following morning by SAPS for a hit-and-run case of which he is unaware. However, his lawyer, Cathy, who is also the sister of his fiancée, Ruth, loses the case after a fierce battle with the prosecutor for the capable homicide he is accused of. Cebisa is sentenced to 17 years without parole.

While in Johannesburg prison, he encounters a corrupt warden named Dowonko, who mistreats prisoners by violating the Mandela Rules. To receive better treatment, Cebisa is forced to perform illicit tasks for the warden, who utilizes a special gang of prisoners for nighttime robberies, known as the 'earn while serving' deal. Cebisa refuses the deal and becomes an enemy of the warden, who assigns other prisoners to assault him.

However, his lawyer is informed about the inhuman treatment of prisoners happening in the prison by one of the correctional officers. Through her investigations, she discovers that the warden and his officers have been violating the Mandela Rules, which were set by the UN for the treatment of prisoners. She confronts the warden, who pretends to change his behavior out of fear of being investigated by the government. He even grants Cebisa the authority to visit his fiancée, who was injured, while they attempt to obtain a new testimony from the first witness, related to Mandela Rule number 70.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Cebisa encounters Glacia, the girlfriend of his friend Benele. Glacia reveals that after the party, Cebisa got intoxicated and fell asleep. While his friends left, Benele's car ran out of fuel, and he decided to use Cebisa's car to drop her off. It was during this time that he hit and killed Mr. Khumalo, who had thrown himself into the road while trying to escape from two armed individuals chasing him. These two individuals turned out to be the witnesses who testified in court that Cebisa was driving the car.

As Cebisa leaves the hospital under escort, he witnesses Glacia being run over by Benele. Cebisa escapes his escort and hunts down Benele. The story concludes with Dowonko in prison after being found guilty of misusing his power in the treatment of prisoners, thus violating the Mandela Rules. He is placed in a cell with dangerous inmates who threaten to harm him, and he screams to the guards that he will sue them for violating the Mandela Rules by mixing him with these dangerous individuals.
