SIN FIN (LIMITED SERIES)

$75,000.00

LOGLINE: After striking gold with an investment, four friends open a multimedia studio with the hopes of creating a new beacon for unrestricted creativity in the heart of Miami but face political and personal obstacles that force them to question their ideas, values, and motives.

GENRE: Drama/Comedy

SYNOPSIS:

Set in current times, four friends, Franky Rosa, Jackie, Riggs, and Marco, sit around their living room working at their respective crafts; screenwriting for Franky, watching Murray Rothbard lectures for Jackie, and online poker for Riggs. Marco is the "wild one" kept in check by his longtime girlfriend, Dasha. We see the dynamics of their friendship and how they are supremely goal-oriented and dream big (Franky and Jackie more so than Riggs and especially Marco).  (Opening Image and Introduction to the Protagonists)

The four of them have gone "all-in" on a risky investment that pans out, turning them into multi-millionaires overnight. (Inciting Incident)

They agree on having a one-week blow-out celebration in Miami, which turns into them staying there permanently and deciding to build a multi-media studio/bar that does everything and is an extension of their political and social outlook on life. Throughout the series, Franky's complicated relationship with his father is explored and brought to a head when he passes away from alcohol poisoning. Franky decides on shooting a short film as a way to establish himself as a filmmaker without having to go through the Hollywood system, which he despises. Jackie turns the studio into one of the most successful businesses in Miami and meets Ali, who encapsulates what Jackie believes success to be. Riggs meets Amelia, a fellow poker player, and she introduces him to the world of high-stakes poker. (Break into 2)

Franky's short film gets invited into Cannes, but the amount of money/effort did not match the notoriety he received (which was essentially zero). Franky's forced to realize the chips on his shoulders that once helped him are now hindering him. Jackie and Ali's relationship begins to crumble as Ali is used to "talking down" to people because of his status, which doesn't fly with Jackie, who is quick to let Ali know that he owes him nothing. (Midpoint)

Through this time, slowly, Amelia and Riggs develop a relationship. Amelia's toxic relationship with her mother is explored and ultimately comes to a head with Amelia committing suicide, which forces Riggs to have a mental breakdown and combat his tragic upbringing. Ali and three other investors approach Jackie to buy Sin Fin Studios, but Jackie rejects. Ali takes this personally as Jackie mentions the 35k he owes him from the poker games they have been running out of the backroom. The altercation becomes the breaking point for their relationship. During the last couple of episodes, large protests are building around the country. Ali plans an attack on Sin Fin Studios during one of the protests. He hired four men to burn the building down, but in the process, two bright-eyed and bushy-tailed protesters joined them. Jackie shut down the studio due to the sheer size of the protest but stayed back. During the attack, he runs down and shoots the two protesters. Jackie goes to jail and is forced to ask himself if he shot those kids because of self-defense or his prejudices. (Lowpoint and Break into 3)

Franky's brother, Dean, has moved down to Miami and begun to put on comedy shows at Sin Fin studios. He meets a former top agent of WME, Julien, and Dean tries everything to get Franky to attend the meeting with him. Franky is hesitant to take the meeting but realizes his ego has stopped him from taking the next step in his career. The interview is sub-par, but a couple of days, later Julien realizes that Franky wrote a script he had been hunting. The show ends with Jackie getting out of a taxi after doing his stint in jail and walking into the new ten-story Sin Fin studios, which coincidently overlooks Ali's nightclub. (Climax/Resolution)
