SYNOPSIS:

Architect Kurt Hunter, still grieving over the loss of his wife, Melinda, receives a gift from his boss, Don Remington, to a historic mansion located in the woods of Virginia as a gift to help him move on. Kurt, doubtful, presses Don further who reveals he wants Kurt to go to the mansion to try and locate his wife, Elise, who is thought to be dead. Kurt, upon Don's cries of anguish, agrees, and without anywhere to leave his two kids, Lillian, and Ian, brings them along for the trip. The family arrives, and after a less than stellar arrival by almost being crushed by a chandelier, Ian encounters Maribel, a young girl who warns Kurt and his family that there's more to the house than meets the eye. Kurt and the three quickly find out as the house tries to eat them through a mouth in the wall. As Kurt, Ian, and Maribel rush to safety, Lillian encounters her own horror in the bathroom. She is nearly pulled into a dark abyss by a skinless man, Chester Beasley, but is saved in the nick of time by the group, and their new partner Ned, a greaser from the 50s. The five reconvene in the mansion's safe room where Kurt steps out for a breather. He is led towards the mansion's Conservatory where he finds Melinda waiting for him with an eerie message. Kurt races back to safety, informs the group, and launches a plan to find Maribel's mother, Isabelle, and hopefully Elise, so that they can all escape. After many twists and turns, the group reconnect with Melinda, who leads them to safety and points them closer to the room where Isabelle is supposedly is. As Ned bids them farewell for some time alone, Kurt and the others make their way through a twisted labyrinth and find Isabelle in the room, waiting for Maribel. As the two reunite, Lillian devises a plan to reach the mansion's heart, by cutting one of it's "cords". Kurt reluctantly agrees and the group soon find themselves at their destination. As Kurt prepares to kill the mansion, Elise arrives, stops them, with the rest of the mansions residents, along with Ned, revealed to be a traitor and subdues kills Kurt and his family. However, with some convincing from Lillian, Ned turns the tables on Elise, and, after defeating the rest of her "cult" stabs Elise in the heart. However, Elise, still with some fight left in her, tries to kill Kurt. Don, seemingly coming out of nowhere, arrives, stops her, and apologizes for abandoning her. He kills himself as punishment, much to Elise's shock, which gives her the courage, to kill the mansion, and set herself and the other ghosts free. Kurt and the family escape as Elise is taken to hell and the others to heaven. Years later, as Kurt and his two kids live life in their new mansion, two kids encounter, a mysterious man, at the mansion's former location who beckons them in with promises of seeing, something special.
