GENRE: Drama/Fantasy

LOGLINE: A white senator, a Hispanic widowed psychiatrist, and his daughter cross paths with a homeless man claiming to be Abraham Lincoln during a modern-day presidential campaign.

SYNOPSIS:

A homeless man wearing an Army fatigue jacket is taken to the emergency room after being hit by lightning while sheltering at the Lincoln Memorial. In his coat is the business card of Psychiatrist Beckett Nixon, who works for the Dept. of Veteran Services. In recovery, the man claims to be Abraham Lincoln and doesn't remember how he got there. Beckett is assigned his case and begins to search for his real identity.

Abe doesn't like to be cooped up in the hospital, so in the middle of the night, while no one is watching, he wanders out. He begins to explore this new world and encounters its citizens. He likes to strike up conversations and tell tales. People warm up to him when he comments on the rich diversity of America's population. However, he soon learns about the disparities and prejudice that still exist. In one incident, he saves a homeless veteran from committing suicide, which is caught on phone cameras and quickly goes viral. Beckett and his daughter, Amelia, endear themselves to Abe. Amelia is a history buff, and Lincoln has always been her idol. Beckett searches for him and witnesses firsthand the magnetism he holds over crowds. Abe's offers of hope and kind words garner the attention of Senator Clayborn Wright, who is running for President. His platform is geared towards the white population, and he is afraid Abe will swing the minorities to a third party and deny him his prize. Clayborn sets out to find him and Beckett, whom he assumes has somehow manipulated Abe.

Beckett's search for Abe's true identity goes nowhere. Meanwhile, the national news has picked up Abe's story and is drawing lots of attention. Clayborn sees his numbers in the polls slipping. With the convention just days away, Clayborn finally catches up with Abe in the middle of the night at the Lincoln Memorial. He confronts him to tell him the truth. Abe's logical argument makes him reconsider his position on minorities. But Clayborn is still convinced Beckett has brainwashed him and has Beckett detained.

Amelia and Abe give Clayborn's men the slip, and they wind up at a minority protest at the Lincoln Memorial. Many people recognize Abe from the media coverage and ask him to speak. He gives a stirring speech which is being televised. Clayborn and Beckett watch the coverage together. As Abe finishes his oration, he collapses of an apparent heart attack. Amelia, who has been at his side, loses it. They rush Abe to the hospital where he soon dies. Clayborn is stunned and regretful as he and Beckett view the body in the hospital, then walk out of the emergency room. Beckett still doesn't believe Abe was a reincarnation, but moments later, a nurse rushes out to him and says Abe's body is gone. They return to the emergency room and only find a folded-up sheet.

In the wake of all this, Clayborn reverses his position and emulates Abe's convictions for a united and equal America and is elected president. Beckett later gets married, and Amelia becomes closer. At the very end, we see the ghost of Abraham Lincoln walking down the steps of the Lincoln Memorial reciting the Gettysburg address.
