SYNOPSIS:

ACT I

Javard, a passionate writer, struggles to maintain stability for himself and his longtime friend of 20 years, now girlfriend Monica, who battles with alcohol addiction and past trauma. However, after a few infractions at work, Javard is laid off. So he picks up gigs, and both he and Monica donate plasma just to make ends meet. When Javard receives an indirect message while watching a video about moving to Los Angeles, he pitches the idea to an intoxicated Monica, and things turn toxic between them. Despite their differences and being on the verge of eviction, Javard overdraws his bank account and purchases two bus tickets to Los Angeles. Before Monica can put up a fight, the Property Manager and a Sheriff show up at their door.

ACT II

Javard and Monica leave their past behind and embark on a long cross-country bus ride, finding solace in each other's company. During a stop in New Mexico, Monica takes half of their survival money, gambles it at a casino, and triples their earnings. As most of their money is spent, Javard reluctantly joins Monica in a drink to calm her down, but they almost get caught in a dispute with unruly passengers. Finally, they arrive in Los Angeles, 3,000 miles away, with no family, friends, or contacts. They only have each other and the strength of their relationship. However, upon arriving at the bus station, Javard, excited and shocked, searches for co-ed shelters on his phone to find a place to stay. This leads them to Skid Row, the heart of Los Angeles.

Upon entering the shelter, Monica is given a room, but Javard is forced to sleep on the street. The next morning, Javard discovers that Monica is doing better and has made some acquaintances who provide advice and assistance. Eventually, Javard and Monica become residents and enroll in a technical school, although Javard is disappointed with Monica's choice. Within two months, they secure housing, aiming for stability. However, their plans are disrupted when the landlords are forced to sever ties. The remaining landlord assigns management duties to Javard and Monica. While Monica struggles, Javard handles the responsibilities calmly and patiently. During a class, Javard is on his computer and stumbles upon a nearby film school. Excited, he locates Monica to share the news, but he finds her heavily intoxicated. Javard's perspective changes when Monica is arrested for assaulting one of the girls in the house. He withdraws from the technical school and enrolls in film school instead.

ACT III

On the day of Monica's release, Javard is given a tour of the film school. However, Monica's return brings bitterness, and she assumes that the landlord wants to be with Javard and is trying to destroy their long-time relationship. When the landlord arrives to collect rent, Monica's reaction leads to her eviction, forcing her to go home and ending her relationship with Javard. Monica's suspicions are confirmed when, after she leaves, the landlord makes advances towards Javard using a business partnership. Javard rejects her advances and resigns from any management duties, asserting that he came to LA for a different purpose.
