However, when she is unexpectedly assigned a Valentine's Day column by her boss due to an injured Lifestyle editor, Avery is less than thrilled. She sees it as a 'fluff' piece and believes she lacks the skills to create a compelling story about romance, an area where she feels she has failed in the past.

During a conversation with her coworker, Avery's perspective starts to change when her friend shows her a Valentine's card from a former flame. The card bears the postmark of a town called 'Romance,' and her friend explains the town's tradition of receiving cards from around the world for postmarking before Valentine's Day. She also shares a captivating legend about how the town got its name.

Intrigued by this information, Avery decides to research the town and verifies her friend's story. The newfound knowledge sparks her curiosity, and she sees an opportunity to impress her boss with a worthwhile story. With her determination reignited, Avery plans a journey to the town called 'Romance.'

Upon arriving in Romance, Avery's encounter with the local Sheriff, Bryce Connor, leads to a traffic violation citation. Despite her efforts to argue her way out of the ticket, Sheriff Bryce remains firm and advises her to contest the ticket with the County Judge. What initially frustrates Avery eventually becomes the key to uncovering the romantic legend behind the town's name. This legend involves a lost World War I soldier, his heartbroken fiancée, a mystery surrounding his beloved dog, and the discovery of a long-missing wedding ring. As Avery unravels the town's history, she not only finds the perfect Valentine's Day story but also embarks on a romantic journey of her own.
